Economic Development for Educators

Educators with Liberty County Schools attended a session on economic development Feb. 3. They learned how industrial development and industrial expansion impacts a community, diversifying its economic base and population.

A panel of employers from local industries, DS Smith Lumber Mill, Hugo Boss distribution center, SNF Holding, and Bryan County’s Caesarstone also discussed what they look for in employees, and how schools can help prepare youth for local jobs. Representatives of Elan Technologies and Howmet Aerospace participated in the panel virtually.

The program, organized by Liberty County School System, Liberty County Development Authority, and Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, is designed to increase the pipeline of potential employees for local business. It also aims to make educators, and thus their students, aware of careers available in the county.

Other presenters were Liberty County College and Career Academy CEO Karisa Young, Georgia Power’s Regional Development Manager Jason Coley, LCDA’s CEO Ron Tolley, and Georgia Power’s Regional Director Randy Mayfield. County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Franklin Perry delivered a greeting and encouragement. And LCSS’s Executive Director of Special Programs Sonja Duncan moderated the panel discussion.
