Hiring and Training Resources

Hiring Assistance

The USO’s Pathfinder Transition Services program works to help soldiers leaving the service and their families adjust to civilian life and that includes finding civilian jobs. The program has been very active in recent years bringing area employers together with transitioning soldiers.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) recently turned much of its recruiting and screening resources over to WorkSource Georgia. It does, however, still has resources that can benefit employers. The GDOL has worked with many large and small companies in Liberty County to help connect job seekers with employment opportunities.

WorkSource Georgia is part of the Technical College System of Georgia. It maintains an on-line job board where employers can post openings and search for employees. It also has area representatives who will work with employers on workforce issues and recruiting employees.

WorkSource Coastal is part of a network of federal, state and local agencies committed  to help companies find and maximize workforce talent. Its services range from human relations consulting to job training programs and placement.

The Army’s Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP) is the Army’s premiere transition program designed to assist soldiers as they leave active duty for the civilian job market. Both new companies and existing industry in Liberty County have taken advantage of the SFL-TAP office at Fort Stewart as a primary hiring resource.

Training Assistance

Run by the Technical College System of Georgia, QuickStart provides customized, job-specific training to qualified companies that move in or expand their workforce in the state.

The Liberty College & Career Academy (LCCA) is a joint venture between the local school system, Savannah Tech and local employers to better prepare the community’s workforce. The LCCA teaches students about a variety of career pathways (to include manufacturing), workplace ethics skills and employment acquisition skills. Local employers can partner with the LCCA to customize the curriculum based on the workforce needs of specific companies.

Savannah Technical College can be a valuable training resource for companies. Savannah Tech has provided customized training to several existing industries in Liberty County. The training can be done on-site at the company’s facility or in a classroom and lab setting on one of Savannah Tech’s campuses. Savannah Tech has a campus in Liberty County.

Georgia Tech’s Savannah Campus is focused on professional development and providing educational and training resources to industries in the region. Georgia Tech has recently created a VET2 program that gives Savannah region vets a complete toolbox for becoming effective members of the civilian workforce. Georgia Tech has developed a four-week program that focuses on familiarization, socialization, communication and presentation. Local industries can partner with Georgia Tech to “test drive” potential employees as part of this program.
