Labor force up in Liberty, along Coast in July
Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said on Aug. 27 that Hinesville’s labor force increased in July.
Additionally, Hinesville saw monthly increases in employment and monthly decreases in initial claims in July.
“As the state continues to reopen, we are going to see wild fluctuations up and down of the unemployment rate across the state,” Butler said. “The numbers that we really need to focus on are the most important ones, such as increases in workforce and employment which we are continuing to see in all MSAs.”
In Hinesville, the unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage point in July, reaching 6.5 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.3 percent.
The labor force increased in July by 525 and ended the month with 33,990. That number is down 338 when compared to July of 2019.
Hinesville finished the month with 31,766 employed residents. That number increased by 457 over the month but is down by 1,090 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Hinesville ended July with 21,100 jobs. That number decreased by 100 from June to July and remained unchanged when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims went down by 22 percent in July. When compared to last July, claims were up by about 1,265 percent.
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 441 active job postings in metro Hinesville for July.
Coastal Georgia
The labor force also increased in Coastal Georgia in July. The coast also saw a monthly increase in employed residents and a monthly decrease in initial claims for July.
The regional unemployment rate remained unchanged, holding at 8 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.8 percent.
The labor force increased in July by 4,746. The July total was 320,829. That number is down by 11,798 from the total from July 2019.
Coastal Georgia ended July with 295,186 employed residents. The number increased by 4,382 in July but was down 24,879 as compared to last year.
Initial claims for unemployment decreased by 25 percent in July. When compared to last July, claims were up by about 1,864 percent.
