Lawmaker tours Tradeport East, Alcoa Forgings and Extrusions
MARCH 16, 2015: Midway, Ga. — U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter recently visited with representatives from the Liberty County Manufacturing Collaboration during a familiarization visit to Tradeport East Business Center.
Carter met with representatives from Alcoa Forgings and Extrusions (formerly Firth Rixson Forgings), Elan Technology, Interstate Resources and SNF Holding Co. to learn about each business and the Manufacturing Collaboration’s initiatives.
The four companies formed the Manufacturing Collaboration in 2013 and last year launched an apprenticeship program in partnership with the Liberty College and Career Academy and Savannah Technical College.
Carter, early in his first term representing Georgia’s District 1 in the U.S. House of Representatives, also was treated to a tour of the Alcoa Forgings and Extrusions closed-die forging facility, which opened in 2011. The manufacturer is a provider of forged metal products to the aerospace industry.
The Liberty County Development Authority (LCDA), whose mission is to develop and promote industry for the public good and welfare of the county, coordinated Carter’s visit. Carter was joined by two members of his staff and LCDA Chairman Allen Brown.
“We are grateful that so early in his term, Buddy requested to visit with our industries and familiarize himself with the Liberty County Manufacturing Collaboration,” Brown said. “Buddy has demonstrated a strong desire to know his Georgia constituents who are affected by decisions made in Washington, D.C.”
